Supply chain management is the streamlining of supply-side business activities to gain competitive advantage and to maximize customer value in the marketplace. It characterizes an effort to implement supply chains that are economical and efficient as possible. It covers everything from product development, production, to the information systems needed to direct these undertakings.
It attempts to centrally link or control production, distribution and shipment of a product. Business entities are able to cut excess fat and provide products faster by doing tighter controls on internal production, internal inventories, sales, distribution and inventories of the company’s product purchasers.
Supply chain management assumes that every product launched to market results from the efforts of many business entities called the supply chain. These supply chains are existed for ages, until recently most business entities have paid limited attention to them.
